LINHA[A] as a link.
A repertoire to connect us, singers and listeners, in a vibrant and resonant space. To suspend time, in the heart of timeless places, and share the pleasure of singing together, of listening to one another collectively.
Les Mécanos are ten singer-percussionists who have been working together since 2018 on polyphonic songs from the oral tradition, in French and Occitan. Based in Saint-Étienne, France and the surrounding area, the collective has acquired a solid international reputation, placing its songs at the crossroads of traditional and contemporary music.
With LINHA[A] , a completely a cappella creation stripped of all sound amplification, Les Mécanos have chosen to immerse themselves even more collectively in a popular and convivial practice of southern polyphonic singing, guided by the expert and friendly ear of Pascal Caumont, who serves as artistic director.
From the Pyrenees to the Italian Alps, passing through the Massif Central and as far as Catalonia, the ten singers celebrate a living, diverse vocal heritage, one that fosters connections and carries profound humanist values.
Between oral tradition and contemporary creation, LINHA[A] further situates Les Mécanos within a multifaceted Occitan world, creating a dialogue between imaginations drawn from varied territories of expression, and bringing identities closer together beyond regional specificities.
Solo, trio, or ensemble, they weave an intimate, powerful, and generous sound, born from a collective harmonic vibration in constant interaction with the acoustics of the venue and the audience's attentive listening.
